Tyagaraja Pancharatna Goshti Ganam

The Cultural Wing of Students Life Committee (SLC) and the Arts faculty of IIITH organised Tyagaraja Pancharatna Goshti Ganam, a music program as part of IIITH’s Silver Jubilee celebrations on 20 January at the institute Amphitheatre. The program began with the rendition of Divyanama Kirthanas of Tyagaraja by IIITH students under the guidance of Dr. T K Saroja. This was followed by the rendition of Tyagaraja Ghanaraga Pancharatna Kritis by about 30 artists – vocalists, violinists, flutists, veena players, mridangam and Kanjira players. The program was well received.

Tyagaraja Ghanaraga Pancharatna Brndha Gaanam is an annual event organised on the banks of river Kaveri in Tiruvaiyaru in the memory of the Telugu saint composer Sri Kaakarla Tyagaraaja and the service of the dedicated lineage of students. The music festival is observed in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, primarily in Tiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district of Tamilnadu, the place where Tyagaraja attained Samadhi.The musical aradhana was initiated by the famous Bangalore Nagarathnamma and popularised by the likes of Ariyakkudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Semmangagudi Srinivasa Iyer, Kunnakudi Vaidhyanathan and many more.
