Sushil R U wins Silver at IOI & Gold at APIO

Sushil Raaja Umasudhan has won a silver medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI-2024) held in Alexandria, Egypt from 1 to 8 September and in IOI-2023 which was held in Hungary, he won a bronze medal. The International Olympiad in Informatics is one of the most prestigious global competitions for school students, focused on algorithmic problem-solving and programming. The IOI brought together around 350 participants from 96 countries, each represented by their brightest students. Sushil is one among the top 25% of the world’s best competitors. Sushil was ranked 2nd in India, making it a particularly notable achievement.

The selection process is highly competitive in which each country selects 4 of its best students in computer science through a series of selection tests and sends them to the IOI to represent their country. In India, one has to clear multiple levels like ZIO/ZCO, INOI and IOITC to make it to the IOI. The contest is spread over 2 days. On each day of the contest, contestants are given 5 hours to tackle 3 challenging algorithmic problems. The scores on both contest days are combined to produce the final rank list. Medals are handed out on the basis of ranks obtained by the individual. India won 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze in this year’s IOI, equalising the best ever performance by India which was achieved in IOI 2023 with 1 gold, 2 silvers and 1 bronze.

Sushil Raaja Umasudhan won a Gold medal in this year’s Asia Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO-2024) organised online by China in which 35 countries from the Asia Pacific region participated. India won 1 Gold and 2 bronze medals in this Olympiad.
