IIITH team wins Qubit Design Award

A team of IIIT Hyderabad students—Mayank Goel, Ravi Theja Kolluru, Dheeraj Sai, and Niranjan Nagumalli, mentored by Dr. Lalitha Vadlamani won the Qubit Design Track of the Design Contest at the VLSI Design Conference 2026 held in Pune from 3 – 7 January.

The contest challenged participants to propose and develop original project ideas in the area of superconducting qubit design. The IIITH team worked on implementing the quantum repetition code and studied how different qubit connectivity topologies influence error rates. Their work aimed to deepen the understanding of fault tolerance in quantum systems, a critical aspect of scalable quantum computing.

The team expressed their sincere thanks to Srinath Dhatre and A R Bathri Narayanan for their constant support, and conveyed special gratitude to their advisors—Dr. Lalitha Vadlamani, Dr. Abhishek Srivastava, and Dr. Zia Abbas—for their guidance throughout the project.

This achievement highlights IIIT Hyderabad’s growing strength in cutting-edge research areas such as quantum computing and VLSI design.
