August 2022

IAStructE Student’s Chapter, Earthquake Engineering Research Centre (EERC), IIIT Hyderabad was inaugurated on 29 August. Prof. R Pradeep Kumar Vice President, IAStructE South Region welcomed the guests, this was followed by presidential address by Mr. Manoj Mittal, President, IAStructE; inaugural address was given by Prof. Mahesh Tandon, past President,  IAStructE and guest address by  Dr. Shilpa Pal, Associate Professor, Delhi Technological University (DTU). Introduction   to the executive committee and vote of thanks was done by Dr. P  PravinKumar V  Rao, faculty advisor.

Prof. Yogendra Singh, IIT Roorkee gave the inaugural guest lecture on Seismic Response Estimation Structure.

In his lecture Prof. Singh discussed the characteristics of seismic loading, salient characteristics of earthquake ground motion, and different methods of linear and non-linear analysis of structures for estimating seismic response. The selection and spectral matching of earthquake ground motions for time-history analysis were also elaborated.

Prof. Yogendra Singh is currently Railway Bridge Chair at IIT Roorkee. He was the  former Head of the Department of Earthquake Engineering at IIT Roorkee. His research interests include performance based design of buildings and bridges; seismic vulnerability and risk evaluation; non-linear modeling and analysis; seismic Evaluation and retrofitting of structures; and earthquake engineering in hilly regions. He has more than 28 years of research and teaching experience, and has guided 14 Ph.Ds., published more than 80 research articles in the international journals of repute. He has been a member of several expert teams including the BIS expert group on performance based seismic design of structures. He has a collaboration with several international universities and research organizations, including NORSAR-Norway, NGI-Norway, NTU, Singapore; Stanford University, USA; University of Edinburgh, UK; University of Windsor, Canada; University of California, USA and University of Porto-Portugal.
