A farewell function was organized by IIITH family for Prof. Abhijit Mitra, Center for Computational Natural Sciences and Bioinformatics (CCNSB). Prof. Abhijit Mitra superannuated on 31 July 2020 and continued to work as Emeritus Professor till 31 December 2020. The function was held at KRB Entrance Lobby and also on MS Office Teams.
Speaking on the occasion faculty, staff, students and alumni appreciated and acknowledged his many years of service and the contributions he made towards, IIITH, CCNSB, Student Life Council and Human Values Cell.
Prof. Mitra’s areas of research include quantum chemical computation of noncovalent interactions, molecular mechanisms of functional biomolecules, geometries and interaction energies of noncanonical base pairs, structure and dynamics of functional RNAs, riboswitches, metabolomics, education and values.
He joined IIIT Hyderabad in July 2002 at the age of 50, and he went on to head the Centre for Computational Natural Sciences and Bioinformatics (CCNSB), initially known as the Bioinformatics Research Centre – BiRC. Prof. Mitra was instrumental in setting up the center from scratch.
He along with early staff and faculty members has witnessed the institute’s journey from early days till today. Prof. Mitra has made significant contributions towards CCNSB, Student Life, Value Education and many more.
