Dr. P Raghu Ram

Dr. P Raghu Ram, a pioneer in breast cancer care across South Asia gave a talk on ABC’s of Breast Cancer, which everyone must know on 13 August. The talk was organized by the Student Life Committee (SLC) and Campus Health & Medical Committee (CHMC). This informative session  increased awareness, understanding, and proactive health practices surrounding Breast Cancer.

Dr. P Raghu Ram is a visionary leader, a world-renowned surgeon, an exceptional humanitarian, and one of the finest ambassadors of modern Indian medicine. He is the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE), and a pioneer in breast cancer care across South Asia.

He is the Founder-Director of the KIMS-Ushalakshmi Center for Breast Diseases at KIMS Hospitals in Hyderabad, India’s first dedicated, purpose-built, comprehensive breast health centre, established in memory of his mother, Ushalakshmi Kumari, a breast cancer survivor.

With the launch of Pink Connexion, India’s first quarterly breast health newsletter, and the flagship Pink Ribbon Campaign, Dr. Raghuram garu has taken breast health conversations from silence and stigma to awareness and empowerment.

A surgeon of rare distinction, Dr. Raghuram garu has received some of the most prestigious honours, to name a few:

In 2021, he was included in Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year Honours list and was conferred the OBE for services to breast cancer care and surgical education, becoming one of the youngest surgeons of Indian origin to receive this recognition in over a century.

In 2015, Raghuram garu was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, and in 2017, the Dr. B C Roy National Award, the highest honour in Indian medicine.
