Education Outreach conducted Master workshops in 3 research domains – IoT, Speech Processing, and Robotics under the College Research Affiliate Program Batch 3 on 21 April. Around 200 UG 3rd year students and 15 faculty participated from 6 different colleges like SAINTGITS Kerala; HITAM Hyderabad; Vasavi college Hyderabad; BVRIT College of Engineering for Women Hyderabad; BVRIT Narsapur and KIET- Kakinada.
The workshops were inaugurated by Prof. Jawahar C V, Dean R&D with a motivational keynote speech, followed by lecture sessions delivered by respective professors and TAs.
- For the Speech analytics workshop, Prof. Chiranjeevi Y and Prof. Anil Kumar V discussed speech-processing applications and challenges with the participants in this one-day workshop. Research scholars from the Speech lab presented their work on speech pathology, ASR, prosody analysis, and speech-to-speech translation.
- In the IoT workshop, Prof. Sachin C, Prof. Deepak G, Anuradha V, and TAs took sessions and trained the students on IoT, Smart Cities, Water level monitoring, and oneM2M, encouraging them to deploy standard-based solutions in their college campuses for smart water level monitoring in overhead tanks. Students formed 12 teams, consisting of 4 students in each team, and built the IoT and oneM2M-based water level monitoring devices, which will be deployed in their respective colleges.
- For the Robotics workshop, Prof. Nagamanikandan, and Prof. Hari K took sessions on the general overview of robotics research at IIITH and introduced them to trajectory generation and fixed-wing UAVs. The TAs conducted coding sessions related to PID controllers for drones, trajectory generation, and forward and inverse kinematics of robot manipulators.
The student participants and faculty are excited to work with the research labs for internships, higher studies, and research projects. Furthermore, the selected students would do some BTP and engage in research projects under IIITH professors guidance as interns.
The achievements from the last 2 batches are participants joining IIITH as interns, and around 10 students converted to regular MS. Around 8 patents and 10 research publications (+ journals) are published by these participants under the guidance of IIITH professors. Among the participating colleges, 2 started new IT/CS-related departments, and 5 faculty members joined IIITH on sabbatical. Also, one startup came out by 2 students named Hyderoverse. The Education Outreach looks forward to scaling the program to as many colleges as possible and enhancing the research capabilities of the students and faculty.
