Women in Data Science (WiDS) regional event was organized by the WiDS Ambassador Ms Sulakshana Sreeram on 15 February at Amazon Campus, Hyderabad. As part of the conference, Dr. Radhika Mamidi was invited to be a part of the panel discussion on Early Adopters in AI. Dr. Radhika Mamidi emphasized on the need for diversity in the data science teams to bring a better perspective as biased data influences biased algorithms and applications. With examples, she focused on the need to sensitize on gender and racial discrimination reflected in our training data and thus affecting our machine learning based systems.
The Women in Data Science (WiDS) initiative aims to inspire and educate data scientists worldwide, regardless of gender, and to support women in the field. WiDS is a Stanford University initiative that includes a global conference, with approximately 150+ regional events worldwide.
