Urban Stormwater Management

A two-day workshop on Urban stormwater management using water sensitive urban design concepts and strategies to publish high impact journal articles and research student guidance was held on 14 and 15 February at IIIT Hyderabad. Prof. Ataur Rahman, Professor in Water and Environmental Engineering from Western Sydney University, Australia was the chief guest. The workshop was organised by Lab for Spatial Informatics (LSI) and it mainly discussed the strategies which have been adopted for implementing effective stormwater management in urban environments. The core content on the first day of workshop was presenting about the different statistical & physically based stormwater modelling methods for urbanised environments, and the associated challenges faced in it. The topic of discussion on the second day was the importance of publishing high-impact journal articles in order to further scientific conversation.

The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. K S Rajan followed by an introduction on the workshop motivation by Dr. Shaik Rehana. Speakers from different institutions including Dr. Satish Regonda, IIT Hyderabad and Prof. Kulkarni Shashikanth, Osmania University shared their research findings on urban stormwater modelling, with a focus on Hyderabad as the focal point. Valuable insights from Dr. Y R Satyaji Rao, Director, Scientist ‘G’, National Institute of Hydrology, Kakinada was also conveyed through an online platform. Prof. Ataur Rahman’s talk on writing a good research paper covered the steps in detail from submitting the abstract to giving replies to the comments from the reviewers.
