Social activist Dr. Sandeep Pandey gave a talk on present discontent in society and its future consequences on 10 January. He works in the rural area of Uttar Pradesh. After B.Tech from IT-BHU and Ph.D from the University of California, Berkeley, he joined as a faculty member at IIT Kanpur. He left IITK in 1993 to take up full time social work. He has been much in the news and has led many crusades against caste discrimination, against globalization (while protesting against Coca-Cola factories drawing large amount of ground water), for peace (foot march to Pakistan), for right to information, food, work and education (in a variety of forms). He won the Magsaysay Award in 2002 for emergent leadership category for his work on Asha for Education of which he is a co-founder.
