IIIT Hyderabad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NALSAR University of Law (NALSAR), marking the beginning of a strategic partnership to foster a synergistic ecosystem for advanced learning and innovation. This collaboration will focus on academic exchange, research, student exchange, faculty exchange, co-hosting workshops and programs, projects, conferences, capacity-building programs, and developing interdisciplinary academic programs at the intersection of law, technology and policy.
Key Areas of Collaboration
The partnership will focus on several strategic initiatives, including:
- Broad Areas of Academic Exchange
- The partnership shall encompass offering joint teaching and research programs.
Teaching
- Role of Institutions: IIIT-H and NALSAR may engage in joint course delivery, where faculty from both institutions co-teach specialized elective or core modules. Credits earned by students at the partnering institution shall be transferable, subject to the academic ordinances of the respective host institution.
- Dissertations and Projects: Students (Master’s and Integrated Master’s) may undertake their final year dissertations under the joint supervision of faculty from both NALSAR and IIIT-H. Physical infrastructure, including laboratories and libraries, will be made accessible to students for the duration of these projects.
Research
- Collaborative Nature: Research shall be conducted through joint projects and programs funded by national and international funding agencies.
Conferences / Seminars / Workshops
- Both institutions will jointly organize international and national conferences, symposia, and specialized training programs.
- Financial Addendum: For every specific event, a separate Annexure to this MoU shall be drafted, detailing the financial obligations, revenue-sharing models (if any), and resource allocations of both parties.
Any Other Relevant Activity
- Shared Infrastructure: Research Equipment/Instruments as per the guidelines of each parent institution. User charges may be applicable for certain equipment as per the rules of host institutions.
- Social Impact: Collaborative outreach programs aimed at addressing regional challenges in Telangana through technological and social interventions.

NALSAR was established in 1998 and is governed by The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University Act, 1998. Over the last twenty-five years or so, NALSAR has emerged as a major law school in India in teaching, and research. NALSAR in recent years has been actively engaged in teaching and research in emerging technologies including cyberspace related technologies, AI, space law and maritime law.
