Teachers’ Day

On the occasion of Teachers Day on 5 September, Dr. Radhika Mamidi planted a mango tree near the Nilgiri building. Indians celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (first Vice President of India, second President of India and above all, a great teacher) as Teachers’ Day on 5 September annually.

It all began during Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s tenure as President of India, when some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, he said, “instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege, if 5  September is observed as Teachers’ day”. From then onwards, his birthday has been observed as Teachers’ Day  in India.
