World Poetry Day – 2025

The Cultural Wing of the Student Life Committee (SLC)organized World Poetry Day on 21 March at KRB Auditorium.  World Poetry Day is an occasion to honor the art of poetry, the power of words, and the poets who bring them to life. The event included poetic conversations by the IIITH campus community and poetic readings by renowned poets from their published books – moderated by Prof. Harjinder Singh (Laltu).

TELUGU

Ramesh_Karthik_Nayak is the winner of the 2024 Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar in Telugu for his short story collection, Dhaavlo. He is the first tribal and youngest Telugu author to receive this honor at the age of 26. A bilingual poet, short-story writer, editor, and translator from Telangana, he has six books to his credit: five in Telugu and a poetry collection in English.

Nayak is one of the pioneering writers in Telugu to depict the lifestyle of the Banjaras. His poems have been published in Poetry at Sangam, Indian Periodical, Live Wire, Outlook India, Nether Quarterly, Borderless Journal, The Riveraine, Ethos Literary Journal, Indian Literature, and Scroll, and have been translated into Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, and Assamese.

Swetcha_Votorkar is a Telugu poet and authored a book “Matti Poola Gaali”.  She loves nature poetry.  She is also a journalist and social activist.  She completed her masters in Mass Communications and Journalism.  She loves travelling in nature and reaching out to many tribal areas. 

HINDI

Anupam Singh is a Poet and Critic.  Published books : ‘Maine GaDha Hai Apna Purush (Poetry)’ and ‘Siddh-Naath Aur Sant-Sahitya Kee Rachnatmak Antardhara (Criticism)’. She has taught at Non-collegiate Women’s Education Board, School of Open Learning and Vivekananda Women’s College, Delhi University.

Mrityunjay is a poet, critic and translator. Published books : ‘Syaah Haashiye (Poetry)’, two books of criticism ‘Hindi Alochana Mein Canon Nirmaan’, ‘Hindi Canon’ and some books of translation. He is in the editorial board of both several journals. After teaching at Ravenshaw University, Ambedkar University and Azim Premji University, currently associated with the Centre for Indian Languages, CSDS, Delhi.

BENGALI

Aritra Chatterjee currently works as an Assistant Professor at the Birla Institute of Science and Technology (BITS Pilani), Hyderabad Campus. Born on the outskirts of Kolkata in 1994, his ventures have kept him away from the city for nearly a decade now. Aritra primarily writes in his mother tongue and maintains a keen interest in both fiction and poetry. His works have been published in several Bengali magazines, including Kaurab and Guruchandali, and have resulted in two books: collections of Bengali poems titled “Sarkis Parjaniar Diary” (The Diary of Serkis Parjanian, 2021) and “Amader Aschorjo Bhasa” (Our Staggering Tongue, 2023). Outside of work, he enjoys watching cinema, football, reading old letters and spending time with stray cats.

Indranil Chakrabarty is a an associate professor at IIIT Hyderabad working in the area of quantum information. Beyond academics, his interest lies in Literature and Cinema. He started writing poetry, short stories, and translations in various magazines for more than a decade. He has published in various reputed journals like, Kaurab, Aparjan, Sukhopath, Khepchuriyans, Abhaman, Onnyonishad, Kalimati, Bookpocket and others. He has published two poetry books “Mon Kharaper Pore” and “Gate Number 22 er Kabita” till date. In his own words about where poetry exists–“Poetry remained in whatever that was not said in the poem”.
