Programming Club IIITH, supported by Clubs Council and Student Life Committee, has embarked on an inspiring
journey to strengthen India’s presence in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC). Led by Kishore, a dedicated programming club admin, this initiative has evolved into the country’s largest ICPC camp.
A Vision Turned Reality: This remarkable journey began with a simple idea born as a random 6am thought. Kishore reached out to a friend from IITK, sparking the idea of collaborating for the inter-IIITH ICPC camp. Building on the success of the previous year’s event, they set out to create something extraordinary.
Uniting Exceptional Minds: The ICPC camp, organized by Programming Club IIITH, brought together brilliant minds from various IITs, BITs, and IIITs. Participating institutes included IIITH, IITK, IITM, IITD, IITP, IITR, IITG, BITS-Pilani, IITKGP, IITBHU, IITBBS, IIITD, LNMIIT, and IITGN. This collaboration demonstrated a collective commitment to push the boundaries of coding excellence.
Remarkable Response: The ICPC camp received an overwhelming response, with over 3200 individual participants from across the nation. Five exciting contests have already taken place, featuring over 1200 unique teams competing for glory. IITD and IITM secured victories in two contests each, while IITKGP claimed the top spot in one. IIITH proudly achieved notable 4th, 3rd, 5th, 4th, and 7th place finishes, showcasing its competitive spirit.
Knowledge Sharing: To enhance participants’ coding skills, the ICPC camp hosted live lectures by distinguished individuals. An IIITH alumnus, ICPC World Finalist, and Codeforces Grandmaster who is currently pursuing his Ph.D in Ruhr Bochum, Germany, Anurudh Peduri, conducted a captivating session on geometry topics. This was followed by an IITD Codeforces Grandmaster (ex-India #1), Mridul Ahi, who delivered an enlightening lecture on useful data structures. These sessions collectively garnered over 1.5k views on YouTube, reflecting the coding community’s hunger for knowledge.
A Shared Vision: Programming Club IIITH’s initiative is a significant step toward fostering an ICPC culture across India’s premier institutes. The camp has provided a challenging environment, preparing participants for future ICPC competitions. India’s aspiration to clinch the Asia-West champion title or secure a medal in the World Finals grows stronger. India is yet to win a medal or the Asia-West champion title at the World Finals. The best rank ever achieved by an Indian team at the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) was rank 18 in 2012 by 2 teams from IIT Delhi and IIIT Hyderabad. While an Indian team triumphed in the Asia- West championship this year, there is collective hope for even better performances in the upcoming World Finals.
IIITH – Leading the Way: Programming Club IIITH’s efforts are instrumental in nurturing India’s ICPC aspirations. With commitment and a shared vision, they are propelling the nation’s coders to new heights. The journey continues, and the dream of India’s ICPC success draws closer with each step. Join Programming Club IIITH on this inspiring journey as they set the stage for India’s triumphant future in the ICPC arena.
