Introduction to CP

The Programming Club conducted a meet in which the world of Competitive Programming (CP) was introduced as a journey of enhancing problem-solving capabilities, mastering algorithms, and experiencing the joy of overcoming

challenges on 27 September at SH-1.

The session was nothing short of interactive and engaging, with participants receiving valuable insights about Competitive Programming. The presentation covered a variety of essential topics, including a clear understanding of CP, the numerous events and opportunities associated with it including the prestigious ICPC, preparation resources, and future plans.

The Programming Club has a remarkable track record of success in the competitive programming arena, having frequently reached the grand ICPC World Final stage and creating records unmatched by any other institute in the country. Notably, a significant number of seniors who achieved this prestigious milestone had embarked on their programming and CP journey in UG1. The event served as a beacon of inspiration, motivating participants to strive for excellence in the world of competitive programming. With the overwhelmingly positive response from this session, it’s clear that the legacy of success in CP at UG1 will continue to thrive.

 

Summer Training meet on Dynamic Programming

The Programming Club restarted the summer training series after a long break, with the topic of Dynamic Programming. The event, which was held on 5 October generated substantial enthusiasm and participation from students, making it a resounding success.

The dynamic event covered a range of critical topics, beginning with an introduction to Dynamic Programming and its pivotal role in problem-solving. Both Bottom-Up and Top-Down approaches to tackling problems with Dynamic Programming were explored in detail. Attendees were taken on a journey through numerous examples that showcased the incredible problem-solving capabilities unlocked by this technique.

The event was inclusive, targeting students from all academic levels, with a special emphasis on UG1 and UG2 students, igniting the curiosity and problem-solving spirit of participants, leaving them better equipped to tackle similar problems.

Introduction to Binary Search

Binary Search is one of the most important and fun algorithms in all of Competitive Programming. The Programming Club conducted the Introduction to Binary Search Meet on 15 October. The participants were eager to delve into the intricacies of Binary Search. 

The session began with a comprehensive introduction to the basics of Binary Search, ensuring that attendees had a solid foundation to work from. Participants were not only guided on how to code Binary Search recursively and iteratively but were also presented with practical applications through problem-solving. This interactive session made Binary Search accessible and efficient for all skill levels. The enthusiastic,  engaging and overwhelming participation made the Binary Search session one of the most memorable events in recent times, setting the stage for more exciting events and learning opportunities in the future.

 

Meta Hackercup – Updates and Achievements

The Meta Hacker Cup is a global annual flagship event that brings together programmers from around the world to compete in a series of challenging coding contests. IIIT Hyderabad has once again demonstrated its prowess in competitive programming by  qualifying for Meta Hacker Cup Round 2.

 

To qualify for the next round a global rank of below 500 was required, and this was achieved by Dheeraja Rajreddygari (Ug4), Kishore Kumar (Ug4), Anurudh Peduri (Alumni) with global ranks 460, 472, 479 respectively.

 

In this round there was also a T-shirt prize for participants with ranks below 2000.  Dheeraja Rajreddygari, Kishore Kumar, Anurudh Peduri (Alumni), Harshil Singh, Keyur Chaudhari, Pramod Rao, Shiven Sinha, Sambasai Andem, Srikar Desu, Harshvardhan Rana, Sumit Kumar, Tanay Gad, Prakul Agrawal, Sriteja Pashya, Aryan Gupta, Zishan Kazi, Mohammed Faisal and Keval Jain received T-shirts from Meta for their impressive talent in this field.
