Subhash Chandra Bose’s 125th Birthday

IIIT Hyderabad celebrated Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 125th Birth Anniversary on 23  January. The event was held online through MS Teams.  Prof. P  J  Narayanan inaugurated the event and gave the inaugural address. This was followed by a brief biography on Bose by Sudha Tanay Doddi, UG2020, CHD and talks by Prof. Harjinder Singh, CCNSB and Prof. Aniket Alam, CHD. Prof. Singh spoke on Ask questions on history and assess the present while Prof. Alam spoke on Netaji in his own words. The event concluded with patriotic songs by Radheshyam Thiyagrarajan, UG2020, CHD and  M Prabhakar, Assistant Manager, Students Life Office.

Subhas Chandra Bose was born on 23 January 1897 in Cuttack, Orissa Division, Bengal Province, to Prabhavati Dutt Bose and Janakinath Bose, an advocate belonging to a Bengali Kayastha family. He was the ninth in a family of 14 children. He was influenced by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna after reading their works at the age of 16. He felt that his religion was more important than his studies. 

His most famous quotes were: Give me blood and I will give you freedom, Dilli Chalo / On to Delhi – this was the call he used to give the INA armies to motivate them. Jai Hind / Glory to India! was another slogan used by him and later adopted by the Government of India and the Indian Armed Forces. Another slogan coined by him was Ittehad, Etemad, Qurbani (Unity, Agreement, Sacrifice).
