LSI hosts brainstorming session  

Hydroclimatic Research Group, Lab for Spatial Informatics, IIIT Hyderabad hosted an online brainstorming session on Decision Support System and Software Development for Real Time Water Quantity and Quality Management of Tunga-Bhadra River System of Tropical India on 12 July. About 45 people from Advanced Centre for Water Resources Management, Government of Karnataka, educational institutes and other NGOs participated in the one-day brainstorming session. The workshop was conducted as part of a research project supported by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology, Water Technology Initiative (WTI) in Collaboration with Advanced Centre for Integrated Water Resources Management (ACIWRM), Government of Karnataka. The event kickstarted with a briefing by Sri. S  B  Siddagangappa, Registrar/Engineer in-Chief, ACIWRM  on water quantity, quality, droughts and irrigation issues of Tunga-Bhadra river basin. Subsequently  Dr. P Soma Sekhar Rao, Director Technical, ACIWRM  addressed the delegates and emphasized the importance of reservoir-river management for improved sustainable water resources management and  Prof. K S Rajan  addressed the delegates and spoke about the challenges to water quantity and quality management of inland water sources. This was followed by keynote talks by Dr. Shaik Rehana, Dr. Harish Kumar B K, River Health Expert, Centre for Education Environment and Community, Karnataka, Ms. Sangeetha, Assistant Engineer, ACIWRM and panel discussions which enriched the knowledge of the participants towards the Tunga-Bhadra river water quantity-quality management.
