Dr. K S Rajan gave a special keynote talk on GeoAI: Sharing Experiences and Challenges from Spatial Data Generation to Spatio-temporal Knowledge Discovery at the Japan Society of Geoinformatics Symposium (JSGI Symposium-2021) on 3 December.
It has been more than 30 years since the Society was established in April 1990. During this period, computers have dramatically developed in terms of both hardware and software, and high-performance equipment has become smaller and easier to use, and computer processing of geological information will be performed normally in both the fields of earth science and engineering. The Japan Society of Geoinformatics has been working on DX transformation (Digital Transformation) since its establishment, and continues to contribute to it. However, in the midst of major changes in the times, it is not an extension of the past, but the identity and mission of the Society, “What is Information Geology?” Is an urgent issue. The cornerstone of its development is the interdisciplinary nature of the Society, which combines science, engineering, and sociology. Therefore, looking back on the past, the Japan Society of Geoinformatics hopes that this symposium will be a clue as to what fields, new themes and fields the information geology can develop in the future.
