This year, the Janmashtami celebrations at IIIT Hyderabad were marked by three significant events: Janmashtami Matka Mania (Pot Decoration Competition), Janmashtami Pooja, and the Dahi Handi celebrations. Each event brought together members of the IIIT community, including students, faculty, staff, and security personnel, creating an atmosphere of devotion, creativity, and festivity.
Janmashtami Matka Mania was held on 24 August where nearly 17 teams participated in the competition. The event showcased the creativity and enthusiasm of the participants, as teams decorated pots with innovative designs reflecting the spirit of Janmashtami and the arts. Due to unexpected rains, the event was shifted midway to the warehouse, ensuring that the competition could continue smoothly. The event concluded successfully, with three teams being declared winners and receiving gifts in line with the festive spirit. The event was a great success, with many creative ideas and designs being presented by the teams, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
Janmashtami Puja was held on 26 August 2024. Faculty, students, staff, and security personnel participated in the puja. Despite the rain and ongoing quizzes, the event saw significant participation. After the puja, prasadam were distributed to all participants, including the security staff. The Sri Krishna Moorthi was kept at the warehouse until midnight The pooja was a major success, with the community appreciating the dedication and efforts of the organizers. The religious significance of the event was maintained throughout, and the decorations received widespread acclaim.
Janmashtami Dahi Handi was held on 31 August. The event lasted approximately 90 minutes and saw participation from students, staff, and faculty members. All participants were given equal opportunities to take part in the Dahi Handi, and safety measures were strictly adhered to, resulting in no injuries. The event was marked by enthusiasm and joy, with participants appreciating the inclusivity and the festive atmosphere.
