The 17th International Symposium on New Technologies for Urban Safety of Mega Cities in Asia was held at IIIT-Hyderabad from 12 – 14 December. Urban safety and environmental management are challenges for any country in the world today. Scientists, researchers, academics from universities & institutes of higher learning, governments and societies are working together to find new solutions to these global issues. Recognizing the critical importance, the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, and the International Center for Urban Safety Engineering (ICUS) at Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), The University of Tokyo (U Tokyo) co-organized the International Symposium on New Technologies for Urban Safety of Mega Cities in Asia (USMCA).
ICUS identifies, investigates, and resolves issues towards the realization of sustainable urban systems for the prosperity and safety of society considering challenging socio-economic problems. The symposium focused on urban safety and environmental management. The technical discussions during these sessions addressed issues of urban disasters like Urban Safety & Disaster Mitigation, Infrastructure Management and Environment Informatics.
The symposium included keynote lectures by eminent people from academia, industry and government. The main symposium was from 12 – 13 December and on 14 December participants were taken for a technical tour to the casting yard site of the Precast Concrete Girder Segments of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project, one of the largest Metro Railway Projects in India and were also shown a few historic sites at Hyderabad.
