IIIT Hyderabad’s Student Life Office (SLO) organised a cultural presentation on 7 August to celebrate International Day of the World’s Indigenous People. The event which was a part the UG-1 induction programme, featured five traditional tribal and folk dance forms of Telangana, namely gussadi, dhandari chachoi, andh vage, demsa, and thoti kikri, providing the IIIT Hyderabad community with an enriching experience of indigenous culture and traditions.

A special highlight of the programme was the narration and explanation of these dance forms by Dr. Satyanarayana Dyavanapalli, curator of the Tribal Museum of Telangana. His insights into their cultural and historical significance enhanced the audience’s understanding and appreciation of the performances. Appreciated by students, faculty, staff, and residents alike, the event effectively fostered cultural understanding and a deeper respect for India’s vibrant indigenous traditions.
