Inaugural Summer Olympics

The grounds of the Faculty Staff quarters echoed with the laughter, cheers, and camaraderie at the first-ever edition of the Summer Olympics, hosted entirely by the youthful residents aged 3 to 17 from 21 March to 1 April. This remarkable event saw a myriad of individual and group competitions, including badminton, running, long jump, table tennis, cycling, football, cricket, frog jump, and kho kho, captivating the hearts and minds of all involved.

Behind this grand spectacle stood a dedicated organising committee, comprising Neha Vinod, Rachit Chawla, Bodhi C V, Nirvaan Parmar, Snikita, Shabbir Hussain, Vineeth and Abjijayaram Gundimeda. With meticulous planning and unwavering determination, these young minds orchestrated a seamless 10 day extravaganza, drawing overwhelming participation from their peers.

The journey towards this momentous occasion began a month prior, with the committee diligently crafting every detail. Yet, their efforts wouldn’t have come to fruition without the invaluable support of the adults — Mayank, Vinod, Sachin, Kanika, Pranjali, and Aradhana who lent their expertise in logistics management.

Special recognition is owed to Dr. Vinod, Sports Chair and Nagaraju, along with the ground support staff, for their instrumental role in facilitating field events at the football ground. Their tireless efforts ensured that every participant had the necessary facilities and warm-up assistance, contributing to the event’s overall success.

As the games unfolded, parents rallied together, cheering on the young athletes and fostering an environment of encouragement and support. The culmination came on 6 April, with the grand prize distribution ceremony, where each participant was honoured with certificates of participation.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presence of our esteemed guest of honour, Mr. Sanjib Kumar Mitra, father of Prof. Shubadip Mitra. His unwavering enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the event left an indelible mark on the young athletes, who were deeply touched by his presence and blessings.

With hearts full of gratitude and eyes brimming with pride, campus kids are  looking forward to the possibility of a second edition of the Summer Olympics in 2025. May it be a testament to the enduring spirit of youth, unity, and sportsmanship that defines our vibrant community.
