Holi was celebrated on campus on 25 March with a Prabhat Pheri from faculty quarters in the morning and ended at Jagruti Banyan tree. Throughout the procession faculty, staff and students sang and danced around the campus and played holi with organic colours at the institute football ground. A DJ and music were present at the football ground which made the event a memorable one. Snacks, sweets and thandai were served.
‘Prabhat Pheri’, which literally means ‘early morning rounds’, is a tradition or a ritual lost in the façade of modernization. A long time ago, during the yesteryears of ethnic India, people from the villages would get up early in the morning much before the sun’s rays peeped from the sky and take rounds of the village chanting and singing ‘bhajans’ and playing ethnic instruments.
