Sri Dhananjay Hegde and team presented a Hindustani vocal program on 29 September at Himalaya-105. The event was jointly organized by IIITH and SPIC MACAY. He was accompanied by Sri. Yogeesh Bhat on Tabla, Sri. Madhusoodan on Harmonium and Sri. Yashwant Golcha gave vocal support.
Sri Dhananjay Hegde started learning music at the age of 4 and his mother Smt. Geeta Hegde was his first Guru. For a short period, he had training under Pt. Venkatesh Kumar. Since 1989, he has been training under Pt. Vinayak Torvi in Gurukul tradition. He has performed all over India and abroad, and has won several awards including prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by Sangit Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Pt. Basavaraj Rajguru Yuva Puraskar, SaMaPa Yuva Ratan Puraskar, New Delhi.
The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) is a voluntary youth movement which promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage by promoting Indian classical music, classical dance, folk music, yoga, meditation, crafts and other aspects of Indian culture; it is a movement with chapters in over 300 towns all over the world. SPIC MACAY was established by Dr. Kiran Seth in 1977 at IIT Delhi.
