Guest lectures by Prof Radhika Mamidi 

Dr. Radhika Mamidi gave the following  guest lectures online:

  • The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre at JNTU Hyderabad organized Online Short Term Course on “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from 28-06-2021 to 03-07-2021. Dr Radhika Mamidi presented in 3 sessions on topics in the domain of Computational Linguistics viz. Machine Translation, Text Classification and Dialogue Systems on 1st and 2nd July.
  • Participated at a two-day seminar on Development of Telugu as a Digital Platform along with Mr. Krupal Kasyap, consultant for IndicWikipedia project at LTRC. It was organised by the Department of Language and Culture, Telangana government on 10 and 11 July. Dr. Mamidi emphasised on the need to bridge the gap between Telugu experts and the technologists. She showed how with the increase in online content, better NLP tools may be developed which in return will help the community to use the Internet resources in a better way. On the other hand, Mr. Kasyap introduced the audience to many resources and tools that can be used to overcome the challenges of creating e-content in Telugu language.

  •  Gave a lecture on “Everyday Sexism” on 29th July in the Short Term Course in Gender Sensitization at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Kumaun University, Nainital from 27 July-02 August 2021. She presented examples of sexism (hostile and benevolent) at home, workplace, education, media, sports, politics etc. She also shared how some of the data-based NLP tools and applications are sexist and addressed the need to correct them by including non-sexist terminology. The need to keep gender spectrum in mind while making policies was emphasised as well.
