Gender Sensitization Committee (GSC) organized a two day workshop on Gender Awareness from 18 – 19 March to increase gender awareness among students and other people of IIIT-H community and also to address challenges and problems faced due to gender identity. The workshop included various activities and panel discussions on various gender related issues. As the world today is progressing rapidly, it is imperative that this is reflected in our thoughts and actions. The best way to get introduced to ideas is through hands-on experiences and simulations, which draw a link between the body, feelings and emotions.
Some of the events and activities which tried to open conversations about topics unspoken during the two day workshop were:
- Discussions on Gender and Workspace, Gender and Housework, Gender and Technology
- An Open Session: Discussing, Stalking, Friend Zone, Consent, Sexual Harassment etc
- Unlimited Girls : A Film by Paromita Vohra and Discussion based on that
- Sculptures were present in one dark room beside KCIS faculty room, people could access it without disclosing their identity.
- Talk by Sahitya Academy winner writer P Lalitha Kumari “Volga”
- Stereotypes in Pop Culture
- Revealing Sculptures and discussion
This 2-day workshop made people think, and gave a safe space to talk, ask and discuss issues that otherwise wouldn’t have been considered.
