We are thrilled to share the incredible journey of Meghna, an esteemed alumna of IIITH (Dual degree, CSE, 2004-2009) , who recently brought laurels to India at the AWPC international powerlifting competition in Kyrgyzstan. Meghna’s venture into powerlifting wasn’t a deliberate choice but a transformative decision to prioritize her health during her Ph.D studies. Recognizing the need for physical fitness and mental well-being, she incorporated gym sessions into her routine, gradually making exercise a non-negotiable part of her day. Her journey took an unexpected turn when a personal trainer recognized her potential in weightlifting. The swift progress and enjoyment she found in lifting weights led her to explore competitive powerlifting.
Within a year, Meghna achieved a remarkable milestone – lifting 100 kgs. Motivated by her newfound confidence and passion, she ventured into district-level competitions, clinching the first position and paving the way for further success. From state to national levels, Meghna’s dedication and progress earned her a spot in the Telangana team, representing her state at the nationals.
Meghna expressed immense gratitude to her coaches (Mohammad Yasmin), family, friends, colleagues (Dr. Praveen Paruchuri) and her employers at THB and IIITH, whose unwavering support allowed her to effectively balance training with work commitments.
Looking forward, Meghna aims to set and achieve micro-goals in powerlifting, continually pushing her limits. Additionally, she aspires to transition from powerlifting to Olympic weightlifting, aiming for new challenges and milestones.
Meghna’s story is a testament to the unexpected paths life may take and the power of perseverance in achieving one’s goals. We applaud her resilience, dedication, and the pride she brought to IIITH and the nation on the international stage.
Congratulations, Meghna, on your remarkable achievement! Your journey is an inspiration to us all.
