Dr. Rajorshi Ray has joined the Human Sciences Research Center (HSRC) as an Assistant Professor. He obtained his Ph.D from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). His dissertation was titled “Social Networks and Their Role in Structuring Entrepreneurship in Platform-Mediated Service Work in India.” His research interests lie in investigating the socio-economic practices and processes that shape digital societies. He is currently collaborating with international institutes such as Florida State University and the Danish Institute of Advanced Sciences to decipher how digital economic transactions shape the Indian informal markets. He employs mixed methods, including ethnography and discourse analysis, to investigate the social. He has published in journals such as the Journal of South Asian Development and the Asian Studies Review. He is currently co-authoring a book tentatively titled Platform Economies in India. He was awarded scholarships from the Oxford Internet Institute and Chalmers Institute of Technology early in his doctoral tenure.
