Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, Government of India visited IIITH on 3 February. The focus of the visit was to enhance the expansion of IOT- 5G use cases.
The meeting involved several key individuals including Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Ms. Anuradha Vattem, Prof. Ramesh Loganathan, Prof. Sachin Chaudhari, Prof. Aftab Hussain, Prof. C.V. Jawahar, Dr.Rajan, Mr. Srinivasa Dukkipati from Silicon Lab, and the BSNL team led by Chaganti Srinivas.
Ms. Anuradha Vattem explained the smart city living lab projects and the innovative smart city architecture developed by the lab to all the visitors present.
Prof. Sachin explained the deployment of 50 nodes outside the campus to collect air pollution data and get some insights for deployment in cities.
Dr. Neeraj Mittal has expressed a lot of interest about sensors developed at the lab. Ms. Anuradha explained crowd management using 5G, while Dr. Sachin highlighted the high bandwidth, quality, and low latency of video data collected for analytics. Examples were given regarding crowd tracking during events such as Rajahmundry pushkaralu.
The Living Lab Team discussed using 5G for NB-IoT to deploy denser sensors for understanding water flow and consumption patterns, and borewell monitoring. A project involving remote lab control, allowing experiments to be conducted from a village was also discussed. Anuradha noted Mr. Neeraj’s interest in the real-time dashboard offering comprehensive insights and the live campus tour (Grace View) displayed.
Overall, the meeting covered various aspects of smart city initiatives, sensor deployments, water management, crowd analytics using 5G, and remote lab control, with a focus on innovation and collaboration.
In addition to the Smart City Living Lab, he went through the entire campus of IIITH. Dr.Mittal visited the exhibition centre and went through the various research projects done by IIITH. Prof. Ramesh Loganathan and Ms. Anuradha Vattem gave a detailed explanation of each and every research work to Dr. Mittal.
A press meeting was held where reporters asked many questions about 5G to which Dr. Neeraj Mittal, explained the benefits that 5G can bring to common people. Anuradha Vattem mentioned that it was a fruitful visit to smart city Living Lab by Dr. Mittal who showed a lot of interest in the work being done by the team and showed interest to take the same solution to villages for creating smart villages with the help of Smart City Living Lab, IIITH team.
