Dr. Deva Priyakumar awarded Chemical Research Society of India, Bangalore (CRSI) Bronze medal

Dr. Deva Priyakumar has been awarded the prestigious Chemical Research Society of India, Bangalore (CRSI) Bronze medal for the year 2021 in recognition of his  contributions to research in chemistry. The award will be presented to him either in the 27th CRSI National Symposium in Chemistry at IIT Guwahati in February 2021 or at the 28th CRSI National Symposium in Chemistry at IISER Kolkata where Dr. Deva Priyakumar will also give a Medal lecture. This is a major national award that brings recognition to the Centre for Computational Natural Sciences & Bioinformatics at IIIT Hyderabad.

The Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) was established in 1999 as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the country’s independence. Currently, CRSI represents more than 2300 lifetime members who participate in the study, practice, teaching and promotion of Chemistry. The main objectives of the CRSI are to recognize, promote and foster talent in Chemistry and Chemical Sciences and to improve the quality of Chemical Education at all levels. The CRSI organizes conferences, seminars, workshops, symposia and other related programs to facilitate and promote research in all branches of Chemistry. The society has active collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London, the American Chemical Society (ACS), Asian Chemical Editorial Society (ACES), the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the French Chemical Society.

The Bronze Medal is given to young researchers who have done well in any area of Chemistry. In the last 20 years (2000 – 2020), 292 medals have been given. Normally, the number of medals given per year is 20. This is presented during the National Symposium in Chemistry (NSC) held in the month of February and July every year, where the medalists are invited to give a 20 minutes lecture.
