Career guidance session at ZPHS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) team from IIIT Hyderabad conducted an informative career guidance session at Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS), Gachibowli on 15 March. During the guidance session emphasis was laid on ethical AI usage for academic purposes. The event focused on helping students make informed career decisions while highlighting the importance of responsibly integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their studies, along with a Q&A session.

Four members from the NSS team actively participated in the event. The event was attended primarily by 8th and 9th grade students. The session focused on helping students think about their career goals and understand how to achieve them. They were asked about their dreams and whether they had a clear plan to reach them.

Some of the key points discussed were:

  • The importance of communication skills and expressing their thoughts clearly
  • Encouraging students to make their own decisions while seeking guidance from teachers, parents, and elders
  • Helping them understand that they are at a stage where they should start planning for their future
  • Suggesting that they explore different paths and find the right approach to achieve their goals
  • Motivating students to volunteer for events like this in the future and take part in social service activities
  • The goal was to inspire students to take charge of their future, develop confidence, and make informed career choices

Usage of AI: The session started by asking students how many of them use AI and what they use it for. Key points discussed were:

  • AI should be used mainly for verification and support, not as a replacement for thinking
  • Students were advised not to rely on AI blindly, as it can affect their ability to think and learn independently
  • Encourage them to question and analyze the information they get from AI instead of accepting it without thinking
  • The goal was to help students use AI wisely while improving their own knowledge and decision-making skills

The school teachers were happy with the event and found it useful for the students. They also showed interest in organizing similar career guidance sessions in the future.
