Arpan Singh at University of Tokyo

Arpan Singh, a third year MS by Research student in Civil Engineering, working under the supervision of Dr. Sunitha Palissery has been offered Ph.D admissions at the Department of Civil Engineering in the Meguro-Numada Laboratory at the University of Tokyo (UTokyo), beginning in the fall of 2023. He has been selected as one of the 8 international candidates for the MEXT scholarship of the Japanese government through a highly competitive screening process.

According to Times Higher Education and QS World ranking, UTokyo is Japan’s first Imperial University, one of the top universities in the world, and is widely regarded as the most selective and prestigious University in Japan. In 1982, the Department of Civil Engineering established the International Graduate Programme, and since then, over 900 international students have earned Master’s and Doctoral degrees from the University. The programme combines high technology and cutting-edge science with elements of the humanities, and this synthesis promotes the ability to make policy and manage large projects.

The Meguro-Numada Laboratory focuses on minimising human & property damages, and social dysfunction caused by hazards such as earthquakes, through a well-balanced combination of experimental, numerical, and analytical research approaches using modern technologies. Arpan Singh is eager to help contribute to the larger goal of the Laboratory.
