Music Cognition Symposium

Center for Cognitive Science organized a Music Cognition Symposium on 24 and 25 March, which brought together leading international and national researchers in the interdisciplinary field of Cognitive Neuroscience of Music. The two-day symposium facilitated faculty and student interaction and exchange of ideas around various themes surrounding Music Cognition ranging from psychology and emotion, perception, wellbeing, therapy, movement, to computational modelling. The symposium included presentations by invited speakers,  several panel discussions, interactive Q&A sessions, and live music and dance performances. Invited speakers included Prof. Petri Toiviainen, University of Jyväskylä, Finland; Dr. Jonna Vuoskoski, University of Oslo, Norway; Dr. Iballa Burunat, University of Jyväskylä, Finland; Prof. Preeti Rao, IIT Bombay; Dr. Vinoo Alluri, IIIT-Hyderabad; Adjunct Prof. Suvi Saarikallio, University of Jyväskylä, Finland; Dr. Shantala Hegde, National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS). The symposium concluded with an evocative Bharatnatyam performance by local artist Kiranmayee Madupu showcasing how emotions can be evoked through dance.
