Sireesha Naidu Galla, a Computer Science dual degree student working with Dr. Shaik Rehana in the Lab for Spatial Informatics(LSI) presented two papers on A Comparative Analysis of Regional Drought Characterization over Krishna River Basin in India Using Potential and Actual Evapotranspiration and the other on Candidate Distributions for Drought Characterization Using Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index for Meteorological Zones of India authored by Dr. Shaik Rehana and N. T. Monish at the AOGS 15th Annual Meeting held in Honolulu, Hawaii from 3 – 8 June. This is one of the largest conferences in Geosciences domain with various abstracts and distinguished lectures from esteemed faculty all over the world. Sireesha says “Analysing problems related to the real world has always fascinated me. Understanding drought categorization, water availability and prediction of drought will help in the management of water resources for the present and future generations”. She adds that the research environment at IIIT is designed to help students to pursue their area of interest and none of this would have been possible if not for the timely guidance and motivation from her guide Dr Shaik Rehana because of whom she was able to make it to the conference, meet professionals and budding researchers in this domain. She also thanks her family for their constant support and her father especially who accompanied her all the way to Hawaii. This work is funded by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. In addition to this, Sireesha received travel grant from the research centre LSI and the institute to attend the conference.
