A research paper titled “VRSpecML: A Profile for Realizing Domain-Specific Virtual Reality Systems,” co-authored by Bavya Sri and Sai Anirudh Karre, with collaboration from Prof. Y. Raghu Reddy, has been accepted to the New Ideas and Emerging Results (NIER) Track of MODELS 2026 – International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems, a CORE A conference. The conference is scheduled to be held from 4–9 October 2026 in Málaga, Spain.
The paper presents VRSpecML, a UML profile designed to support the modeling of domain-specific Virtual Reality (VR) systems. The approach extends a platform-agnostic VR metamodel with domain-specific stereotypes and tagged values, OCL-based constraints for machine-checkable validation, and enhanced traceability from requirements to VR system design.
The proposed approach is demonstrated in two diverse domains — healthcare rehabilitation and fire safety evacuation — showing how free-text requirements can be transformed into structured and validated models at an early stage of the VR application development lifecycle.
This work forms part of a broader research effort at the Software Engineering Research Center (SERC), IIIT Hyderabad, focused on Model-Driven Development of Enterprise Virtual Reality systems. VRSpecML contributes to an emerging end-to-end model-driven pipeline for VR application development, building on a series of tools and research contributions for requirements specification, design generation and versioning, behavioral interaction logging, and model conformance checking.
The acceptance of the paper at MODELS 2026, a leading conference in Model-Driven Engineering, represents a significant research contribution toward systematic and scalable development of domain-specific VR applications and highlights the ongoing research efforts of SERC, IIIT Hyderabad, in the areas of Model-Driven Engineering, Virtual Reality, Requirements Engineering, and Software Engineering.
