Tajul Islam, Founder and CEO, RealmRisk NG Private Limited gave a talk on Seismic Collapse Capacity Evaluation of RC Buildings using Non-linear Simulation on 19 August. Here is the summary of the talk:
Selsmic design is predominantly based on prescriptive force-based approaches, where ductility is indirectly accounted for through empirical force-reduction factors. Performance-Based Seismic Design (PBSD) provides a more direct assessment of structural force and displacement capacity through non-linear static, and dynamic analyses. OpenSees, developed at PEER, UC Berkeley, is a powerful platform for oon-linear seismic analysis, but its steep leaming curve can limit accessibility. REOS, developed by RaaimRisk, atdrasses this gap through an intuitive pre- and post-processing interface for DpenSees. This workshop introduced participants to non-linear static and non-linear time-history analysis using REDS, with a focus on evaluating the seismic collapse capacily of RC buildings.
Tajul islam is the Founder & CEO of RealmRisk NG Pvt. Ltd., a deep-tech startup incubated at IIT Roorkee, and a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Earthquake Engineering, IIT Roorkee. His research focuses on Al and Digital Twins for structural health assessment, performance-based selumic design and retrofitting and life cycle cost and carbon assessment. He has published and presented his research at national and international forums and has trained 500+ engineers from industry and academia in Performance-Based Design across India and abroad.
