Praveen Garimella has joined Centre for Educational Technology and Learning Sciences (CETLS) as Associate Professor of Practice. He holds an MSIT in e-Business Technologies from Carnegie Mellon University, an MS in Software Engineering from JNTUH, and a Harvard Business School Online Certificate in Disruptive Strategy.

Praveen Garimella is an educational technology practitioner, learning scientist, and systems architect with over two decades of experience at the convergence of cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and large-scale platform engineering.

He served as the Director of Learning Technologies and Research in the Centre of Learning and Teaching Excellence at the Indian School of Business, where he drives digital learning strategy, architects learning systems, and leads the design of scalable, online education. Concurrently, he is Adjunct Faculty at Carnegie Mellon University’s Software and Societal Systems Department (School of Computer Science), where he contributes to research leveraging AI and learning sciences for computer science education.

Praveen’s foundational ties to IIIT Hyderabad stem from his role in developing the “Learning by Doing” platform for the MSIT Program. Drawing on his work with CMU’s Intelligent Tutoring Systems and Open Learning Initiative research groups, he designed and administered the MSIT curriculum, transforming it into a mastery-based ecosystem with automated grading, personalized feedback loops, and digital badges for micro-skills recognition. He also helped lay the groundwork for the program’s transition to a fully online model.
