The institute celebrated its 25th Convocation on 11 July, conferring degrees on 526 graduates across undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes. The graduating cohort included 166 undergraduate, 303 postgraduate and 57 MSIT students.
From its first convocation in 2002, when 49 students graduated from a campus with 496 students and 16 faculty members, IIIT Hyderabad has grown into one of India’s leading research universities. Today, the institute has 2,524 students, 114 faculty members and an alumni network of over 8,200 graduates, reflecting nearly three decades of sustained growth in research, innovation and academic excellence.
Maddireddy Kritin (B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering) received the IIIT Hyderabad Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance, while Abhinav Digambar Raundhal (B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering) was honoured with the Best All-rounder Award for his exceptional achievements in academics, extracurricular activities and service to the institute.
Addressing the graduating class, Director Prof. Sandeep Shukla encouraged students to view convocation not as the end of their education but as the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning and impact. He urged them to uphold integrity, embrace uncertainty with confidence, and use their knowledge to solve meaningful problems that benefit society. He also reminded graduates that the values they cultivate and the relationships they build will remain as important as their technical accomplishments.
The ceremony also reflected on IIIT Hyderabad’s remarkable journey through messages from former directors Prof. Narendra Ahuja, Prof. Rajeev Sangal and Prof. P J Narayanan, who spoke about the institute’s evolution from a pioneering experiment in research-led education to one of India’s foremost research universities. Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, underscored the importance of combining technical excellence with innovation, entrepreneurship and a commitment to solving real-world challenges, encouraging graduates to use their education to create meaningful impact.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, congratulated the graduating students and wished them success in their future endeavours.
The graduating batch comprised 526 students across seven academic programmes:

The academic year also reflected the institute’s continued momentum in research and innovation. Since 2025, IIIT Hyderabad researchers have produced 371 scholarly publications and intellectual property outputs, including 22 patents, 265 conference papers, 101 journal articles, four book chapters and one authored book. The institute secured more than 55 faculty-led sponsored research projects during the year, while faculty members received research awards and grants from leading organisations including Adobe, Google, Qualcomm and Amazon Development Center.
The institute welcomed five new regular faculty members during the year, taking its faculty strength to 114. It also continued to strengthen research through externally funded postdoctoral fellowships and competitive Ph.D. fellowships supported by agencies such as DST, ANRF, UGC, CSIR, IndiaAI, TCS and Google.
IIIT Hyderabad’s executive education programmes have now trained over 4,500 professionals through hybrid learning across AI & ML, Blockchain, Software Engineering for Data Science, and Generative AI programmes. Meanwhile, its alumni community has grown to over 8,200 graduates, with alumni continuing to support future generations through scholarships and the institute’s long-running pay-it-forward Alumni Fund.
