Dr. Tanmay Bhowmik has joined the Center for VLSI and Embedded Systems Technology (CVEST)  as an  Assistant Professor. He obtained his Ph.D from IIT Guwahati. 

Dr. Tanmay Bhowmik is a young academic researcher with interests focused mainly on the emerging research areas of “Nanophotonic Metamaterials, Integrated Silicon Photonics, Scattering Microscopy, & THz Photonics”. He has one year of pre-doctoral experience in the domain of underwater optical communication, working as a project associate at IIT Madras. He earned his PhD from the Dept. of Electronics & Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, winning the Best PhD Thesis Medal (at the 2025 convocation) for his research on nanophotonics and metamaterials.

From Oct 2024, he is affiliated with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, working in the domain of nanophotonic and advanced microscopy. To date, he has published 14 peer-reviewed Q1/Q2 SCI journal articles (eight as the first author), holds one granted Indian Patent, has presented his research at 8 renowned international conferences, and has contributed to 1 book chapter. He is a recipient of the prestigious AWSAR Award’2022 (by DST, Govt. of India), best presentation award at Photonics 2023 conference (IISc Bengaluru), ONR & NSF student grant at IEEE Metamaterials conference 2021 (USA), and a recipient of the reviewer recognition certificate from the Optical Society of America three times in the years 2022, 2023, and 2025.

His research areas include Nanophotonic Metamaterials, Integrated Silicon Photonics, Scattering Microscopy, and THz Photonics.

Dr. Tanmay has completed his B.E in Electronics & Telecommunications from Tripura Institute of Technology, Agartala in 2013 and M.Tech in ECE from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal in 2016.
