Lohri, Bhogi and Makar Sankranti celebrations

The IIITH campus marked the harvest season with celebrations of Lohri, Bhogi, and Makar Sankranti, bringing together students, faculty and staff in the spirit of tradition, renewal, and community bonding.

The festivities commenced with Lohri celebrations on 13 January at the Felicity Grounds, where members of the community gathered in traditional attire for an evening of rituals, music, and camaraderie. The celebration featured a pooja followed by the lighting of the traditional bonfire and concluded with an evening of music and dance.

Early the following morning, the campus observed Bhogi Mantalu on 14 January, with participants assembling at dawn to light the ceremonial bonfire. The ritual symbolised the shedding of negativity and the welcoming of new beginnings, reinforcing the festival’s message of renewal and positivity.

The celebrations concluded later that morning with Makar Sankranti (Uttarayan), marked by a kite-flying session at the Felicity Grounds. Organised by the Student Life Office, the event saw enthusiastic participation, with eco-friendly kites and accessories provided to the community, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere.
