Hydroclimatic Research Group at Lab for Spatial Informatics hosted an online workshop on Water Quality Management and Pollution Control under Climate and Anthropogenic Influences on 26 February as part of Scientific Social Responsibility Under Core Research Grant, Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India. 

Eminent speakers from international and national academic and research institutes gave invited talks on various topics related to water quality modeling and pollutants detection. Prof. Pradeep Kumar Ramancharla, Registrar IIITH, Head of EERC and Prof. K S Rajan, Head of LSI inaugurated the workshop. Dr. Shaik Rehana, organizer of the workshop addressed the speakers and participants and emphasized on the importance of risk of low water quality and its necessity to study the impact of climate change on river water quality. Later, eminent speakers like Dr. Shailesh Kumar Singh, National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research, New Zealand; Dr. Ebrahim Ahmadisharaf, Florida State University, USA; Dr. Y R Satyaji Rao, National Institute of Hydrology Kakinada; Dr. K S Rajan; Dr. Shaik Rehan and Dr. Vasudha Agnihotri, G B Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment gave invited talks. About 52 participants from academic, research and industrial background participated in the workshop.   

The reality of climate risk all over the globe is irrefutable and has a severe impact on the  hydrological processes. Furthermore anthropogenic activities have also altered the quality of natural water resources. An efficient water quality management and implementation of strict pollution control can lead to sustainable water resources systems in terms of quantity and quality. The workshop highlighted climate change and human action’s influence on quality of water resources systems.
