Nimmi Rangaswamy

Dr. Nimmi Rangaswamy has been invited to join the Editorial Board of the journal Communication, Culture and Critique. Published by the International Communication Association (ICA) and Oxford University Press, Communication, Culture and Critique (CCC) is devoted to critical scholarship on communication, media, and cultural studies.

Communication, Culture and Critique (CCC) provides an international forum for critical research in communication, media, and cultural studies. CCC welcomes high-quality research and analyses that place questions of power, inequality, and justice at the center of empirical and theoretical inquiry. It seeks to bring a diversity of critical approaches (political economy, feminist analysis, critical race theory, postcolonial critique, cultural studies, queer theory) to bear on the role of communication, media, and culture in power dynamics on a global scale.

CCC is especially interested in critical scholarship that engages with emerging lines of inquiry across the humanities and social sciences. It seeks to explore the place of mediated communication in current topics of theorization and cross-disciplinary research (including affect, branding, posthumanism, labor, temporality, ordinariness, and networked everyday life, to name just a few examples). In the coming years, CCC anticipates publishing special issues on these themes.

Dr. Nimmi Rangaswamy has also been invited to join the governing board of Experts for  GiveDirectly, a not-for-profit organisation headquartered in New York City.

GiveDirectly originated as a giving circle started by Paul Niehaus, Michael Faye, Rohit Wanchoo, and Jeremy Shapiro, students at MIT and Harvard, based on their research into philanthropy. In 2012 they formalized their operation into GiveDirectly.

GiveDirectly lets the donors send money directly to the world’s poorest households. GiveDirectly believes people living in poverty deserve the dignity to choose for themselves how best to improve their lives — cash enables that choice.
