Sensors Conference 2022

November 2022

Mohammad Waqas Wani, Y Pawankumar Gururaj, Vivek Pareek, Sai Anirudh Karre, Dr. Y Raghu Reddy, and Dr. Syed Azeemuddin presented a paper on VelGmat: Low-Cost Gait mat for Stance Phase Calculation at the 21st IEEE Conference on Sensors in Dallas, Texas from 30 October – 2 November. Research work as explained by the authors:

Material science enables us to develop a wide array of materials to address worldly problems. Velostat is a carbon-impregnated polythene material used to address many gait-related problems. This paper presents a novel approach to analyze a gait-cycle parameter called Stance-phase. We designed and implemented a low-cost customizable Velostat sensing mat for stance phase calculation. We validated our VelGmat using sensor density, sensitivity, process time, and hardware performance metrics. Our validation results helped us improve the effectiveness of gait analysis. We conducted a comparative study between our VelGmat and commercially available mat and observed 95% accuracy in stance phase values.

IEEE SENSORS 2022 provided a forum for research scientists, engineers, and practitioners throughout the world to present their latest research findings, ideas, and applications in the areas of sensors and sensing technologies. IEEE SENSORS 2022  had keynote addresses and invited presentations by eminent scientists and engineers.
