Dr. Shyamala Vinod, Musicologist and Professional Vocalist gave a talk on Voice and Brief, comparative reference to Indian and Arabic music on 1 February.
The lecture demo had two aspects where the first was on voice and its importance to human beings irrespective of their singing requirements, skills and abilities.
She highlighted the basic problems that people encounter with voice, measures to take care of the voice, importance of non clinical therapy etc. Students interacted very well putting forward interesting questions.
Second aspect was a brief introduction to Arabic music with a comparative approach to Indian music. She demonstrated Arabic music with a small composition.
Dr. Shyamala Vinod Kumar is an accomplished Musicologist and Professional Vocalist with wide experience in performing and teaching music for students in India, Middle East and several other countries through online classes.
She is a proficient Voxologist offering Voice Therapy and Voice Culture Training to several top-ranking Vocalists of various vocal styles. Among the many accomplished vocalists who benefit from her expertise, are Smt. Sudha Raghunathan, Smt. Nithya Sree Mahadevan, Shri P.Unnikrishnan, Sri Ramakrishnamurthy, Smt. Ranjani and Smt Gayatri. Sri Bharat Sundar, Sri Kunnakudi Bala murali Krishna, Kumari Amrutha Murali and others from the Carnatic music industry.
She has also been instrumental in developing the voices of many playback and cine music singers, like Andreah, Manjari, Nithyashree (Super Singer and Indian Idol fame) and many others.
She has been a guide and voice expert on reality shows and competitions in popular TV channels in Tamil Nadu.
She is a visiting faculty at the University of Madras, Professor at the University of SiliconAndhra, San Francisco, World Tamil Music University, Washington DC, and she is the founder of Shri Rajashyamala School of music, Chennai, and she regularly conducts international workshops in collaboration with many other music schools and institutions, the most recent being her workshop on Voice, for the SIOC – The Singapore Indian Orchestra and Choir and the NCPA, Mumbai India.
