Prof Sandip Banerjee, Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Post Doctoral Fellow, University of Helsinki, Finland, Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, University of Calcutta, India gave a talk on Mathematical Models in Applied Sciences.
Here’s the abstract of his talk:
Mathematical modelling is an important aspect of the study of science and engineering. The importance of mathematical modelling in physics, chemistry, biology, economics, industry, and even social sciences cannot be ignored. The primary aim of my talk is to work towards creating awareness in the audiences, of the concepts involved in mathematical modelling, so as to build a basic foundation in the subject. Since mathematical modelling involves a diverse range of skills and tools, I have focused on techniques that would be of particular interest to engineers, scientists, and others who use models of discrete and continuous systems. I would like to draw attention to some factors which are of key importance for the rapid development and success of mathematical modelling in various applied sciences.
