Octave-22

September 2022

After a week of relentless rains, the first edition of Octave-22, an inter-house music competition was finally conducted on 14 September at the Amphitheater. Being the first inter-house event of the academic year, this music battle was met with great enthusiasm from the entire student body and participants alike. Each house was asked to perform a thirty-minute set of Western, Indian, and Classical music. After two weeks of gruelling practice, the houses managed to put up spectacular performances showcasing the finest singers and instrumentalists of IIIT Hyderabad.  The only requirement being, the inclusion of at least one classical and one western performance. This event was open to all students, including alumni.

Students displayed many of their unique talents, such as beatboxing, rapping, playing the veena, and many even played multiple instruments on stage. The vocalists gave some beautiful and near-perfect renditions of songs like ‘Udta Punjab’, ‘Master of Puppets’, and ‘Rock On’ and even a special Qawwali performance by one of the houses. Even the audience was in high spirits, cheering on their houses throughout the evening. There wasn’t a moment of silence, with music and chatter filling the atmosphere. Among the four houses, Agni, Vayu, Akash, and Prithvi; Akash house won as per the judges’ decision. All four houses had put on fantastic musical performances, making it a thrilling evening.
