Foundation Day 2020 -

As the institute completed 22 years on 2 September 2020, a month-long series of online events were organised to celebrate this milestone. The celebrations kicked-off on 2nd September with an industry roundtable, followed by a weekly series of Distinguished Lectures by inspiring leaders in the tech industry sharing their personal journeys, as well as a concurrent series of AlumniSpeak talks.

Distinguished Lectures

9 September

Prof. Raj Reddy of CMU reflected on a part of his life. He recalled how from a small village in AP, taught in Telugu medium, he ended up being a pioneer in AI, the first PhD graduate in CS of Stanford, etc. IIIT Hyderabad is enriched by his presence as the Chair of its Governing Council, by his gentle push and grand vision!

In the first session Mukta Prasad, Principal Engineer MagicLeap spoke with Aishwarya Kalakata, Head Innovation & Product Strategy FlipKart & FlipKart Leap.

Mukta Prasad (IIITH BTech 2001-2004) Hooked onto computer vision research at CVIT, continued to a PhD (Oxford), Post Doc (ETH Zurich) and Assistant Professorship (Trinity College Dublin). Shifting to industry, she worked on autonomous flying with a startup and is now a Principal Engineer with Magic Leap at Zurich.

Aishwarya Kalakata (IIITH BTech Honors 1999-2003) Computer vision, MBA – IIM Bangalore. After working across multiple industries in varied roles including a stint at entrepreneurship, she is now with FlipKart heading Product Innovation. She runs Flipkart Leap, which is Flipkart’s accelerator program.
