Dr. Vanama Raghava Kumar

Dr. Vanama Raghava Kumar, Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology  (NIT Trichy) gave an online talk on Ultra-High-Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete – From Fundamentals to Applications in Bridge Engineering on 23 February.

In his talk Dr. V Raghava  Kumar discussed the evolution of Ultra-High-Performance Fibre Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC), executed UHPFRC projects, including the first bridge made of  UHPFRC in India, ingredients and influence of constituent materials on UHPFRC properties. Dr. V R  Kumar highlighted the design basis of UHPFRC members (shear and bending). Creep and Shrinkage properties of UHPFRC were discussed in comparison with conventional concrete. French and Swiss codal provisions and the comparison of clauses were also discussed and he concluded the talk with a few applications of UHPFRC.

Dr. V Raghava Kumar is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at NIT Trichy. Prior to joiningNIT Trichy he worked as a Manager-Design at Tech-Tangent Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a bridge design consultancy company, and as a Project Scientist at National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai. Dr. V Raghava Kumar obtained his Ph.D from IIT Bombay. He is a Triple gold medallist in his academics. He got post-doctoral research experience at IIT Bombay on improving the service life of RC Marine structures. He is working in different research areas of material and structural engineering including durability of concrete structures, rebar corrosion, steel-concrete interface, service life modelling, repair and rehabilitation of RC structures. Apart from various quality research articles published in the field of material and structural engineering, he got a couple of patents to his title in the development of economical multi-utility devices for corrosion studies. Dr. V Raghava Kumar is a member of IRC Codal committee to formulate the Guidelines on Design and Construction of UHPC Road Bridges.
