Dr. Anupam Sobti

Dr. Anupam Sobti, Plaksha University gave a talk on Geospatial computer vision for actionable insights: Experiments in Urban Heat and Agriculture  27  February.

As artificial intelligence spreads its wings, it provides us an opportunity to tackle long standing societal problems by shortening the information gap – whether it’s information about the historical produce of a farm to a bank or declining condition of a road to your local municipal authority. In this talk, Dr. Anupam Sobti shared examples of geospatial computer vision algorithms being used to extract information for use by urban local bodies for walkable infrastructure, urban heat mitigation as well as a framework for agricultural insights across different stakeholders. He discussed how these ‘AI sentients’ could enthuse efficiency in data-driven decision making for policy makers as well as operational pipelines.

Dr. Anupam Sobti is an assistant professor at Plaksha University. He did a postdoc with Microsoft Research India in the Societal Impact through Cloud an AI (SCAI) group and a Ph.D at IIT Delhi with the assistive technology group. His current work is in geospatial and embedded perception for agri-urban sensing, using satellite images and ground sensors to understand the interconnectedness of the world. He is excited about applied research in the domain of agriculture and urban planning.
