Creativity, fun and bonding with UG1 students

November 2022

As part of the UG1 induction programme, Dr. Radhika Mamidi and team organised a  fun interaction for the UG1 session on 2 November. The aim of this session was to allow the new students to relax, loosen up and have fun while getting to know each other. With this objective 4 different events were conducted.

The first event led by Dr. Saroja, was themed on appreciating music irrespective of language. She expertly sang verses from Bengali, Malayalam, Telugu, Punjabi, Tamil etc., and the students sang along. A point to note was that they were pitch perfect!  A couple of students also sang.

The next event was a dialogue & communication sans language differences, led by Dr. Kavita Vemuri. Students from each part of the country conversed with each other in their language of proficiency, which can be their mother tongue – but not necessarily. It was amazing to note how they picked up small cues from words that sounded familiar and extended conversations on games, movies, food etc. The conversations  were totally impromptu and had hilarious moments. And Dr. Siddarth Das, kept the students all engaged Mathe Arti cually – encouraging them to speak up loud.

The third event was an art activity called Illusionary Perspective Art Installation led by Mr. Shajil. The event was designed for  students to get creative under the banyan tree!

Creativity by collaboration was the theme for the artwork.  Each team filled their canvas with colors, strokes, objects, words and prints all under the care of the banyan tree. To perceive or recognize the contours of self/other and work together for a work-of-art, enhance one’s knowledge, and importantly aim to grow as a conscientious human was the takeaway message. Mr Shajil got all the material needed like paints, chart paper, brushes, tapes, ropes, etc. He first prepared the banners – 5 charts in each banner, drew arcs, straight lines and strokes to convey the contour of the banyan tree. The students in groups were called to paint, write, draw etc, on the assigned banner. While the whole exercise looked chaotic with simultaneous discussions on colors, type of brushes, at the end, they used their hands, fingers and paper and completed their tasks.

The next event also led by Mr Shajil was movement –  Rhythm & Synchronization by movement. The students were given paper ribbons to form air signs and  then stick-on boards.

On 21 November there was a Value Education talk on  Discovering Hyderabad   by Ms. P Anuradhay Reddy, Member Governing Council, INTACH, New Delhi.

As part of the UG-1 Induction Program, Student Life council (SLC) organized a city orientation trip for the UG1 students on 13 November.  The students were taken to Golconda Fort, Kutubshahi Tombs, Lumbini Park and Buddha Statue in Tank Bund.

The energy, the friendly banter, happy faces was a treat to the event coordinators.

Three cheers to the volunteers – Tanvi Narsapur, Kavya Kolli, Shubhangi Dutta (Mona), and of course Mr. Prabhakar M.
